DEARBORN, Mich. – After five years as President & Chief Executive Officer and more than 35 years of service to ACCESS, Maha Freij has announced her decision to retire and begin a planned leadership transition. Following a comprehensive succession planning process, the ACCESS Board of Directors has unanimously voted to appoint Lina Hourani-Harajli, current Chief Operating Officer, as President & CEO effective October 1, 2026.
Freij will remain President & CEO until then and will continue to support ACCESS and its national institutions as a Strategic Advisor throughout the leadership transition.
Freij's retirement marks the culmination of a remarkable career that helped shape ACCESS into the nation's largest and most comprehensive Arab American institution. Since joining ACCESS in 1991, she has played a transformative role in expanding the organization's reach, strengthening its financial foundation, building a culture of philanthropy, and helping establish national institutions that have elevated the voice and impact of Arab Americans across the country.

During her tenure, Freij led major capital campaigns, including the launch campaign for the Arab American National Museum, founded the Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP), expanded ACCESS' national institutions, and strengthened the organization's long-term sustainability through the growth of reserves and endowment. As President & CEO, she launched the Center for Arab Narratives (CAN) and led the capital campaign for the ACCESS Recovery Center, set to open this fall.
"I have always believed that our responsibility is not simply to build organizations, but to build institutions that can serve communities for generations," said Freij. "Together, we have built something larger than ourselves – an institution rooted in community, guided by purpose, and prepared to serve future generations. I have every confidence in Lina and the remarkable team that will continue leading ACCESS forward."
Hourani-Harajli joined ACCESS in 2000 and has served as Chief Operating Officer for more than a decade. She played a critical role in strengthening and modernizing the organization while remaining deeply committed to the mission and communities served. She founded the business operations division, led the planning and buildout of numerous ACCESS facilities, and oversaw human resources, information technology, and marketing & communications. She has also worked with key leaders at ACCESS to implement our whole-family philosophy, helping families break the cycle of poverty, climb the economic ladder, and thrive through support that spans the entire life journey – from early childhood to adulthood, education to employment, and health to healing.

ديربورن، ميشيغان – بعد خمس سنوات من العمل كرئيسة ومديرة تنفيذية، وأكثر من 35 عاماً من الخدمة المتميزة في "أكسس"، أعلنت مها فريج عن قرارها بالتقاعد. وعقب عملية تخطيط شاملة لتعاقب القيادة، صوّت مجلس إدارة المركز العربي "أكسس" بالإجماع على تعيين لينا حوراني-حراجلي، رئيسة العمليات التشغيلية الحالية، في منصب الرئيسة والمديرة التنفيذية للمركز، على أن يدخل هذا القرار حيز التنفيذ في 1 أكتوبر 2026.
ومن المقرر أن تقود فريج مرحلة الانتقال بمواصلة مهامها التنفيذية حتى مطلع أكتوبر المقبل، على أن تنتقل بعدها لدور مستشارة استراتيجية لدعم المركز ومؤسساته الوطنية، بما يضمن انتقالاً سلساً ومرناً للسلطة التنفيذية.
يمثل تقاعد فريج تتويجاً لمسيرة مهنية استثنائية أسهمت بشكل محوري في صياغة هوية "أكسس" وتحويلها إلى أكبر مؤسسة عربية أمريكية في الولايات المتحدة. ومنذ انضمامها إلى المؤسسة عام 1991، لعبت فريج دوراً تحولياً في توسيع نطاق عمل المؤسسة، وتعزيز قاعدتها المالية، وترسيخ ثقافة العمل الخيري، فضلاً عن المساهمة في تأسيس مؤسسات وطنية نجحت في إعلاء صوت العرب الأمريكيين وتفعيل أثرهم في جميع أنحاء البلاد.
وقال حسين شوشر، رئيس مجلس إدارة المركز العربي:
«إن إسهامات مها في مؤسسة "أكسس" والمجتمع ككل لا تُقدّر بثمن. فعلى مدى أكثر من ثلاثة عقود، نجحت رؤيتها في تحويل "أكسس" إلى مؤسسة وطنية رائدة، مع بقائها على تواصل وثيق ومباشر مع احتياجات المجتمعات التي نخدمها. ولعل الإرث الأبرز لمها يكمن في تمهيد الطريق لجيل قادم من القادة الأكفاء. ونحن إذ نعبّر عن امتناننا العميق لخدمتها المخلصة، نؤكد ثقتنا الكاملة في أن لينا حوراني-حراجلي هي الأجدر بقيادة دفة المركز نحو آفاقه المستقبلية.»
وخلال فترة ولايتها، قادت فريج حملات تمويلية استراتيجية، بما في ذلك الحملة التأسيسية لإطلاق المتحف العربي الأمريكي الوطني، وأسست المركز العربي الأمريكي للعمل الخيري (CAAP)، ووسعت نطاق المؤسسات الوطنية التابعة لـ"أكسس"، بالإضافة إلى تعزيز الاستدامة المالية طويلة الأجل للمؤسسة من خلال تنمية الاحتياطيات والأوقاف. وبصفتها رئيسة ومديرة تنفيذية، أطلقت فريج مركز السرديات العربية (CAN)، وقادت حملة لتمويل مركز أكسس للتعافي والتأهيل (ACCESS Recovery Center)، المقرر افتتاحه خريف هذا العام.
وقالت مها فريج:
«لطالما آمنت بأن مسؤوليتنا لا تقتصر على بناء المنظمات فحسب، بل تمتد لتشييد مؤسسات قادرة على خدمة المجتمعات لأجيال متعاقبة. لقد بنينا معاً كياناً أكبر منا جميعاً؛ مؤسسة راسخة الجذور في المجتمع، تسترشد برؤية هادفة، ومستعدة لخدمة الأجيال القادمة. لدي ثقة مطلقة في لينا وفي الفريق الاستثنائي الذي سيواصل المضي بـ"أكسس" نحو الأمام.»
انضمت لينا حوراني-حراجلي إلى المركز العربي "أكسس" في عام 2000، وشغلت منصب رئيس العمليات التشغيلية لأكثر من عقد من الزمان. ولعبت دوراً حاسماً في تعزيز وتحديث المركز مع الحفاظ على التزام عميق برسالته والمجتمعات التي يخدمها. وقد أسست حراجلي قسم العمليات التجارية، وقادت التخطيط والتطوير للعديد من مرافق "أكسس"، وأشرفت على قطاعات الموارد البشرية، وتكنولوجيا المعلومات، والتسويق والاتصال.
كما برز دورها في تفعيل استراتيجية "الأسرة الكاملة" التي يتبناها المركز، لتمكين العائلات من كسر دائرة الفقر والتحول نحو التمكين الاقتصادي والاجتماعي عبر حزم دعم متكاملة تغطي كافة مراحل الحياة، بدءاً من الطفولة المبكرة وحتى مرحلة البلوغ، ومن التعليم إلى التوظيف، ومن الرعاية الصحية إلى التعافي والشفاء.
وقالت لينا حوراني-حراجلي:
«أشعر بالفخر والمسؤولية تجاه الثقة الغالية التي أولاني إياها مجلس الإدارة، وأشكر مها على توجيهها ودعمها الملهم طوال السنوات الماضية. لقد قام المركز العربي "أكسس" دائماً على أسس التميز التشغيلي والمؤسسي، وسنمضي قدماً في تعزيز هذا الإرث العريق من الخدمة والابتكار بينما نبدأ فصلاً جديداً في تاريخ المركز الممتد لـ55 عاماً.»
ومع تغير القيادة، تبقى الرسالة ثابتة؛ إذ يواصل المركز التزامه بتمكين المجتمعات والنهوض بقطاعات الصحة والاقتصاد والثقافة محلياً ووطنياً. وبفضل أسسه المتينة، ووجود خليفة قيادية مهيأة، ورؤية مستقبلية واضحة، يبدو "أكسس" في موقع متميز لمواصلة السعي نحو بناء مجتمع أكثر عدلاً وتكافؤاً، بدءاً من الأحياء المحلية وصولاً إلى جميع أنحاء البلاد.
تأسس المركز العربي "أكسس" عام 1971 في مدينة ديربورن بولاية ميشيغان، ويعد أكبر مؤسسة عربية أمريكية غير ربحية وأكثرها شمولاً في الولايات المتحدة، إذ تخدم ملايين الأفراد من مختلف الخلفيات عبر برامجها ومؤسساتها المتنوعة.
وتتمثل رسالته في الارتقاء بالواقع الصحي، والاقتصادي، والاجتماعي، والثقافي للمجتمعات على المستويين الإقليمي والوطني.
ويحقق المركز أثراً مستداماً من خلال مؤسساته الوطنية الرائدة، وهي: المتحف العربي الأمريكي الوطني (AANM)، والمركز العربي الأمريكي للعمل الخيري (CAAP)، ومركز السرديات العربية (CAN)، والشبكة الوطنية للمجتمعات العربية الأمريكية (NNAAC).
